Lauren Hui will be receiving her B.S./M.S. from the University of California, San Diego in Physiology and Neuroscience. She is a Bay Area native planning to pursue a M.D./Ph.D. after graduation.
Currently, I am an undergraduate research intern in the Gage Lab at the Salk Institute in La Jolla studying inflammation stimuli in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. In the past, I have worked in developmental neurobiology, diabetes, glioblastoma, and orthopedic surgery laboratories. I am extremely passionate about the intersection between translational/clinical research and medicine and I hope to bridge the two by practicing medicine and conducting research in my career. My research interests lie primarily in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), and multiple sclerosis and I hope to examine the molecular markers that underlie the progression of these diseases and the link between the gut-brain axis and neurodegeneration.
Research Interests: neurodegenerative disease, molecular biology, gut-brain axis, neuroplasticity
