Joy earned an M.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,
and a B.A., Magna Cum Laude, in Mathematics from Wheaton College. She earned her Teacher
Certification in Secondary Mathematics in Illinois. She tutored mathematics at all levels, from
Pre-Algebra through Calculus. During graduate school, she taught College Algebra to
undergraduates. In her career as an actuary, she attained the designation of A.C.A.S., Associate
of the Casualty Actuarial Society, through the rigorous actuarial examination process. Most
recently, Joy taught music at Chadbourne School. A mother of three graduates of Mission San
Jose High School, she has been an active member of the Mission community, volunteering
extensively at Gomes, Hopkins, and MSJHS.
